By carrie I looked everywhere for a flush mount ceiling fan and never thought to look on Amazon.com. They are beautiful and look so expensive up. I could not have made a better choice. I am 100% satisfied and feeling like my home went up into the millions. You would not beleive what a difference 2 new ceiling fans made. The bronze looks great against the white ceilings.
unsatisfied and feeling poor May 09, 2012
By Frankie The fan came with quality flaws, such that inversion of the direction of blades was not possible. The fan has a switch to change the fan direction, but it did not work. During correspondence on this issue with Lamps Plus (very politely, quick replies) I was told the fan should not have a switch and it should not be used to reverse motion. This can only be done by the remote control. After another day of correspondence, it turned out to be not true and Lamps Plus corrected this statement. In fact, the direction of the fan cannot be inverted remotely. One needs a Full Function remote, which is not included with this item. Nothing of this is actually explained in the item description.
No problem however - I thought - since I would not need this remote feature often anyway and can as well do this manually. Yet I had a defect item. I believed it was an electrical problem, so did Lamps Plus and they wanted me to sent back the item (I will). After disassembly, it became clear though that the big socket does not well align with the bracket holding the switch. This means, that the switch cannot be closed correctly on one side (1/10 of inch missing). It seemed though that the switch was 'clicking' in to close the circuit. However, only when the socket was removed, the switch would fully close and the motor was running ok in both directions.
So it is a huge machining problem of the socket that I cannot correct (without cutting out material from the socket).
Conclusion: Missing quality assurance. Parts are not well machined and prohibits proper installation. Not good for an item in this price range. Moreover, the manual does not detail the existence of a switch for direction control, so that even Lamps Plus had initially no idea what function it serves and said I should not use it at all. For me a lot of work for installation, disassembly and burden to repack/sent the fan back and dropping it off at some FedEx location.
Feeling unsatisfied and poor with a hole in my ceiling.
